Clover Refuses to Support Small Business

By June 29, 2021News

At last night’s Council meeting, Lord Mayor Clover Moore moved an urgency motion calling on the State Government to provide urgent hardship grants for local businesses given the Sydney lockdown due to the outbreak of the Delta variant of COVID-19.

With Sydney Council holding more than $320 million in unrestricted funds in the bank and expecting to book a $27 million operating surplus in 2021-22, I moved an amendment that Council urgently introduce its own hardship grants for businesses within the local government area.

Yet again the Lord Mayor let the City down, refusing my request and making excuse after excuse as to why her cashed-up Council can’t take action right now to assist struggling local businesses.

Shame shame shame.
