Drop the Lock (Outs)!

By August 27, 2018News

A couple of months ago I wrote to the Premier of NSW Gladys Berejiklian requesting a repeal of the 1:30am lockout laws in the Sydney CBD.

The temporary relaxation of the lockout laws during the 2018 Mardi Gras proved a boon for Darlinghurst businesses, which reported a significant increase in patronage between 1:30am and 3am. At the same time, there was no reported increase in incidents of alcohol-related antisocial behaviour either in the immediate vicinity or surrounding areas.

I believe Sydney has grown up as a global city and it is now appropriate to show the world that our CBD entertainment precinct is once again open for business.

I look forward to the Premier’s response.
