COUNCIL MEETING UPDATE – Oxford Street Tree Lighting

By August 13, 2018News

At our Council meeting on 13 August I’m pleased to say that Council unanimously endorsed my proposal to investigate the possibility of illuminating the London Plane trees lining both sides of Oxford Street between Hyde Park and Taylor Square.

The City of Sydney will consider both short-duration lighting as well as longer term initiatives such as illumination from an outside source using lights attached to awnings or on the pavement.

I’m hoping that if approved the new lighting will enhance amenity in the area and attract more people to the precinct. It’s been a successful strategy in other cities around Australia and the world, I’m hoping for even greater success here in Sydney.
