On 28 February the Lord Mayor pulled a surprise by calling an Extraordinary Council Meeting to discuss an alternative proposal for the Waterloo State Significant Precinct. Only she and her Clover Moore Political Party members have had any knowledge of this alternative proposal. In the interests of transparency and accountability, ALL Councillors should have been fully briefed and informed well in advance of this meeting.
Under the current proposal there’ll be an increase of around 400 new social and affordable housing properties and access to new multi-purpose community facilities providing space for cultural events, community learning, child-care and health services.
As the Executive Director of the Sydney Business Chamber states, “The Metro Quarter represents a substantial investment in Waterloo, providing the opportunity to kick-start regeneration of the area with a mix of private, social and affordable housing, supported by community and government services, retail services and more local jobs.”
