On 13 June I had a fantastic time at the University of Sydney Outside the Square event ‘Public Art: A sound investment or a waste of money?’
It was a lively panel discussion with Chris Fox and Anne Loxley. The public poll question was:
Q. How involved should the public be in the public art process?
a) Input to all decisions from commission to design to installation
b) Early-stage feedback with final decisions taken by council-appointed committee
c) Not at all: public art should be determined by expert artists and/or curators
Pre-discussion option b) was favoured by the audience, however by evening’s end option c) was what came out as the preferred outcome. An interesting and very entertaining evening. Have a listen to the podcast!
